Construction Apprenticeship ProgramsHow Apprenticeships WorkHistorically carpenters, electricians, masons, plumbers and other trades people have learned their skills under the watchful eye of a patient, experienced trade person. Times have changed but the value of apprenticeship has not. Apprentices master a trade as full-time, paid employees under the direct supervision of a qualified journeyman while attending approved related schooling such as CWI's. Come learn while you earn to gain the skills you need to be a residential, commercial, or industrial electrical, HVAC, or plumbing journeyworker.
Electrical, HVAC & Plumbing Apprenticeship programs in Idaho are designed to prepare state registered apprentices to take the Idaho State Journeyman's Exams. An apprentice must complete 4 years of schooling such as CWI's and must complete four years of work experience. These apprentices must show proof of apprentice registration (license #) with the Idaho Division of Building Safety when enrolling in these classes. If not employed as an apprentice, employment must be obtained within one year of starting the course. For current job openings, contact the Idaho Department of Employment. Apprentices in the Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Program are not licensed through the State Division of Building Safety but work much the same. It is recommended that companies participating in Idaho Apprenticeship programs be registered with the U. S. Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship at 208.321.2972. Feel free to contact them for possible referrals or to find out about apprenticeships in other job areas. |
