Frequently Asked Questions - One Stop Student Services

Thank you for your interest in the College of Western Idaho! We are glad you stopped by our website and are looking forward to working with you on your educational goals. Here is some general information and FAQs we’d like to share with you that may help answer some of your questions:

1. What is One Stop Student Services?
One Stop Student Services is your access to Student Services at CWI. Visit Maps & Campus Locations for more information on all One Stop Student Services locations. Please note that One Stop Student Services and CWI Assessment are closed every third Tuesday of the month for training from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to better serve you.

2. When can I apply to CWI?
CWI accepts applications at any time, but special deadlines may apply for health programs and some professional technical technical programs have certain semester only start times. View the steps to apply for more detailed information.

3. How do I apply for CWI Health Programs?

4. Do I need transcripts to attend CWI?
If you are a degree-seeking student, official transcripts (High School, GED, College/University) are required as part of the admission process. If you attended another college or university, we may use previous coursework for pre-requisites into CWI coursework. College students with less than 14 transferrable credits will need to submit official high school transcripts. For those seeking Financial Aid, we do ask for all official copies of college/university transcripts as part of the verification process. Please send your official transcripts to: One Stop Student Services, MS 1000, P.O. Box 3010, Nampa, ID 83653. CWI will also accept faxed high school transcripts as official if they are faxed directly from the school with cover letter/letterhead, have official clearly marked on the transcript and have an official school signature/stamp on the transcript.

5. What kinds of programs and degrees are offered at CWI?
From Information Technology to Elementary Education, CWI offers a wide-variety of lower division transfer / general education courses & professional technical education degrees.

6. What if I am undecided and don’t know what area of study to choose?
CWI MyPlan.com can help and is a new online tool for CWI students. Students can review their skills, interests and values, identify majors & career fields as well as research other colleges/universities! Just visit MyPlan and enter code: RK9RFLCC.

7. What is HigherOne?
Beginning January 2010, CWI and our accreditation partner, the College of Southern Idaho, will be partnering with HigherOne, a financial services company focused solely on higher education to provide a new method of receiving your financial aid/scholarship disbursements. All students who are eligible for financial aid refunds will receive a new CSI EagleOne Card. Learn more about HigherOne.

8. Does CWI offer the GED test?
CWI does offer General Educational Development or GED testing in Canyon and Ada counties. Visit General Educational Development to learn about CWI GED testing in Boise and Nampa.

9. What is the Compass Test and where can I take it? Do I need it?
Compass testing is a Basic Skills Assessment used for placement in appropriate Math and English courses at CWI. While we don’t use COMPASS or ACT scores for admission to CWI, we do use these scores for advising purposes. CWI offers free Compass Testing to students that have applied to CWI and paid the one-time application fee!
